Simon Chisholm, Resonance’s Chief Investment Officer, recently took part in a filmed panel discussion at this year’s UKREiiF (the UK’s Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum), hosted by Gemma Bourne, Head of Property at Big Society Capital, focusing on how impact investing can make a meaningful contribution to the UK’s social and affordable housing crisis.

Paddy Dowdall, Assistant Executive Director, Greater Manchester Pension Fund, Jennifer Murray, Senior Manager, Product Development, Homes England and Shamez Alibhai, Head of Community Housing and Portfolio Manager, Man GPM made up the other speakers participating in the discussion.
With two fund managers and two investors on the panel, the discussions included perspectives from both the fund managers creating investment solutions to deliver more social and affordable housing, and the investors looking at these propositions and deciding to invest in them.
There were many discussion points, including around:
• Why Local Government Pension Schemes are increasingly looking to impact investment funds to provide solutions to housing issues in their regions
• The narrative around returns and impact
• The importance of the right housing providers partners
• How fund managers measure and manage impact
“From an impact perspective, local government pension schemes, can really clearly see the focused impact that that investment is having within their region and on some measurable impacts on the kinds of problems that local authorities often face, for example in homelessness, the 100,000 households that are still stuck in temporary accommodation or emergency accommodation across England alone.” Simon Chisholm, Chief Investment Officer, Resonance
