Earlier this year the Resonance and St Mungo’s Homelessness Property Funds won the NatWest Social Business Awards Investment “Deal of the Decade”. The award recognized the ground-breaking partnership between Resonance and St Mungo’s in creating and managing three property funds that provide move-on accommodation to those who are in danger of homelessness.
As part of the award we were given the opportunity to create a short film (with Pioneers Post) about the Funds.
Our film shows the positive impact of Resonance’s social investment Homelessness Property Funds on the massive and growing social issues around homelessness. Paul, a St Mungo’s tenant, tells of his experiences of homelessness and how, given the opportunity to have the basic right to a decent, safe and secure home has enabled him to rebuild his life.
Daniel Brewer, Resonance’s CEO explains: “80,000 families are currently living in temporary accommodation. In partnership with St Mungo’s Resonance has set up three different funds over the last six years. Overall, we’ve raised £200 million.
“The Fund goes out and buys property on the open market, one and two bedroom flats, which we refurbish to an agreed specification, we lease them to St Mungo’s and then they make those properties available to families who are referred to them in housing need (in weeks not years).”
Howard Sinclair, St Mungo’s Chief Executive added: “We’ve managed to provide upwards of 800 properties but most importantly there’s over 2,000 individuals and families who we’ve helped.”
