Today - on World Homeless Day 2025 - new research from the Museum of Homelessness has revealed a devastating reality: 1,611 people died while homeless across the UK in 2024, the highest number on record and representing a 9% rise on the previous year.
Behind every statistic is a life lost, a person without the safety and dignity of a secure home. It’s a stark reminder that homelessness remains one of the UK’s most urgent crises, in desperate need of sustainable solutions and collaboration.
At Resonance, we believe everyone deserves access to a safe, affordable and decent home - a foundation from which people can rebuild their lives, connect with community and thrive. Through our impact property funds and social enterprise investments, we’re working with housing partners, social enterprises and communities across the country to make that vision a reality.
Providing homes for people in housing crisis
Through our seven impact property funds, Resonance works alongside over 20 expert housing partners across the UK to provide decent, affordable homes for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in London, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bristol, the North West and Gloucestershire.
These funds were created for people leaving temporary accommodation, women escaping domestic abuse and exploitation or leaving the criminal justice system and for people with learning disabilities and autistic people in need of supported housing, providing them with the stability they need to move forward with their lives.
Together, these funds have provided over 1,400 homes for more than 4,400 people since 2013 - individuals and families who can now start rebuilding their lives with dignity and security.
Each home represents the chance for a new beginning - made possible through collaboration with local housing and support partners who ensure every tenant receives the help they need to sustain their tenancy and thrive.
Supporting social enterprises to tackle root causes of poverty and homelessness
At Resonance, we also know that addressing homelessness requires more than just housing - it demands opportunity. That’s why our social impact investment funds are designed to back social enterprises creating jobs, training, wellbeing and community cohesion for people who might otherwise be excluded.
Through funds such as our Social Investment Tax Relief (SITR) Funds, Health & Wellbeing Challenge Fund (South West), Resonance Community Developers Fund and our soon-to-be-launched Resonance Enterprise Investment Fund, we’ve invested in organisations that are transforming local economies and giving people the tools to build stability.
These include social enterprises like SoFab Sports, which employs people experiencing barriers to employment, for example people with disabilities and with health issues, and The Skill Mill, which provides young ex-offenders with employment opportunities in water and land management - providing employment, skills training, and confidence-building opportunities that help to break cycles of poverty and disadvantage.
And through the Resonance Community Developers Fund, we’re empowering community-led organisations to create their own local solutions: building affordable homes, regenerating neighbourhoods, and developing sustainable assets such as renewable energy and leisure facilities.
Since launching in 2021, the fund has committed over £10 million to 28 community groups nationwide, from YorSpace in York, creating low-carbon community-led housing, to Mustard Seed Property in Cornwall, providing homes for vulnerable adults at risk of homelessness.
Building resilient communities
By working with housing partners, social enterprises and community-led organisations, Resonance creates ecosystems of change, where housing stability meets employment, health, and belonging.
Whether through a family leaving temporary accommodation, a woman escaping abuse finding safety, or a community owning and developing its own assets, every investment is a step towards a fairer, more inclusive society.
The findings released today earlier this week underline why our purpose is to make investment a force for good, transforming lives, for example thought providing a sustainable and scalable solution to the UK’s housing crisis. No one should lose their life because they have nowhere safe to sleep.
By investing in homes, in people, and in communities, Resonance is helping to turn the tide: creating decent homes, supporting inclusive employment, and empowering local groups to lead change in their neighbourhoods.
Homelessness isn’t inevitable. It’s a system challenge – and through partnership, collaboration and purpose-driven investment, we can provide a solution to ensure every person in the UK has a place to call home.
