About Spike Island
Spike Island is a registered charity and Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation that supports artists, creative businesses and audiences through studio space, exhibitions, education and professional development. Home to more than 70 artists, creative businesses and students, the organisation provides affordable workspaces, specialist facilities and public programmes that make contemporary visual arts more accessible while fostering creativity, collaboration and inclusion.
Our Investment
Resonance invested £100,000 through the South West SITR Fund to provide working capital that enabled Spike Island to expand its support for artists, strengthen its exhibition services and increase access to visual arts for wider communities.
Our Impact
The investment has enabled Spike Island to support more artists and creative organisations by expanding access to specialist facilities, technical expertise and exhibition services. It has also strengthened the organisation's long-term financial sustainability by growing its commercial exhibition services, generating income that is reinvested into its charitable mission of making contemporary visual arts more accessible, inclusive and impactful for artists and communities alike.

Robert Leckie, Director of Spike Island: “Thanks to this social investment opportunity being granted, Spike Island are now investing in Exhibition Services to expand the team and grow the business. We are excited to further develop our outstanding industry reputation and long-standing history as a leading audio-visual service provider with significant local, national and international experience.”
Sian Norris, Resident: “It’s an incredibly supportive space for emerging artists like myself. The team provided me with practical support for running amazing, sell-out events. Their boundless enthusiasm for my project and their emotional support led to a brilliantly successful four months that changed my life.”
