ABOUT: Southmead Development Trust (SDT) is a charity and a health and wellbeing hub run by the local community. Supporting around 1000 people every month in North Bristol, they focus primarily on community and local engagement, employment and mental and physical wellbeing. SDT offer a range of support services and activities such as specialist support for substance misuse, mental and physical health issues, learning disabilities and people in search of employability skills/training and Greenway Care Connect – a care linking service which connects people who are in need of support to carers who are able to provide it. SDT also offer employability services such as their West of England Works Project – a service that provides people who are unemployed with one-to-one mentoring, workshops and personalised support in order to gain employment. As well as employment and care services SDT also offer community activities such as Parkour, a games club, a creative writing group and a knitting and coffee morning. This wide range of activities encourages inclusivity and community involvement across all age groups.
PURPOSE OF INVESTMENT: The purpose of the investment from the South West SITR Fund was to enable essential repairs to take place at Southmead Development Trust’s Greenway Centre Site such as roof restoration and expansion of their dance and fitness studio. The investment was also used to install much-needed COVID safety measures in order to enable continued use of activities and services at SDT’s Greenway Centre.
Amy Kinnear, CEO at Southmead Development Trust: “The Greenway Centre is a much loved and busy community hub. Hundreds of people come through our doors every week to attend over thirty wellbeing community classes or groups, training courses, our community gym and café, or to work with our many partners on site. We are so excited to receive this support from Resonance to invest in some desperately needed improvements to our ageing building, including repairing our leaking roof and extending our dance and fitness studio.”
Oliver Pollard, Head of Enterprise Growth at Resonance: “Southmead Development Trust is such a well-loved and valuable asset to the local community so I am delighted to see it receive this vital investment. I am also incredibly proud that this is the twentieth investment from the Resonance South West SITR Fund. The investment will see crucial improvements to SDTs buildings and enable COVID-safe adaptations to be made to the Greenway Centre which, in turn, will enable it to continue to grow its services and impressive impact in an area of Bristol with high deprivation and a real need for locally-focused, community support services.”
