SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS:
ABOUT: Salix Homes is a social housing provider based in Salford, Greater Manchester, managing over 8,000 homes, including tower blocks, estates, and sheltered housing. Established in 2015 following a stock transfer from Salford City Council, it is a not-for-profit organisation that reinvests in homes, services, and community initiatives.
Salix Homes is committed to providing quality, affordable housing and improving residents’ lives. It works with specialist partners to offer employment, training, and personal development opportunities, helping to build stronger communities. Through its Springboard fund, it has invested in local projects that benefit residents and enhance neighbourhoods.
The organisation also prioritises sustainability, working to improve the energy efficiency of its housing stock and reduce carbon emissions. It offers affordable homeownership options through Willo Homes and Hive Homes, providing more opportunities for people to get on the property ladder.
With a strong focus on customer voice, building safety, and community investment, Salix Homes aims to create safe, sustainable environments where people can thrive.
PURPOSE OF PARTNERSHIP: We are investing in a mix of 1, 2, and 3-bedroom traditional houses and flats, primarily in Salford, Central, and South Manchester. These homes will provide safe, affordable accommodation for families, couples, and individuals on the housing register.
As part of the Rough Sleepers Accommodation Programme (RSAP), we are also acquiring 1-bedroom flats specifically to support those who have experienced homelessness. These homes offer a vital lifeline, providing stability and a fresh start for individuals in need.
Beyond housing, this investment aims to create lasting impact by helping tenants build brighter futures. Residents will benefit from secure, high-quality homes, enabling them to establish roots in their communities and plan for long-term goals.
The National Homelessness Property Fund 2: This fund was created in December 2020 in response to the growing need for affordable housing, providing safe and decent homes for people in housing crisis. Initially, the fund’s focus was on providing homes in the Greater Manchester region but has since expanded into Bristol, Oxford, Merseyside and London.
As of September 2024, the fund has a total of 355 properties in its portfolio and has housed just 500 people across the UK.
