About Nudge Community Builders
Nudge Community Builders is a community-led organisation founded by local people in Stonehouse, Plymouth. Its mission is to create lasting social and economic change by bringing neglected buildings back into community ownership and transforming them into spaces that meet local needs.
Working alongside residents, businesses and partners, Nudge is leading the regeneration of Union Street, creating opportunities for enterprise, strengthening the local economy and helping build a more vibrant and inclusive neighbourhood.
Our investment
Since 2023, Resonance Community Developers has supported Nudge Community Builders through two investments to help regenerate some of Union Street's most significant vacant buildings.
In 2023, Resonance invested £69,000 to support the pre-development of the C103 building, funding feasibility studies, community engagement, design work and planning for a mixed-use development that will provide commercial space alongside new homes.
In 2025, Resonance partnered with the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation on a joint £600,000 investment to bring the historic Millennium Building into community ownership. The investment unlocked further funding to transform the former cinema and nightclub into a vibrant community hub, including a music venue, workshops and a café bar.
Impact
Through these investments, Resonance has helped Nudge Community Builders bring more of Union Street into community ownership, supporting the long-term regeneration of one of Plymouth's most deprived neighbourhoods.
Nudge has already brought 25% of the empty buildings along Union Street back into community ownership, creating space for 25 local businesses while working towards its ambition of bringing 4,000 square metres of vacant buildings back into use.
By combining social investment with community leadership, the partnership is creating opportunities for local enterprise, supporting young people, strengthening the local economy and ensuring that important community assets remain in community ownership for generations to come.
