ABOUT: Launceston CDT exists to serve the needs of the town’s local people through a range of projects focusing on community assets, affordable housing and community spaces.

INVESTMENT PURPOSE: To support Launceston CDT’s community wide initiatives supporting affordable homes, sports facilities and rewilding nature areas.

ABOUT: Run by members of the Launceston community, Launceston CDT organises a series of community projects to serve the local area. To combat the rise of second homes in Cornwall and general rising prices of homes, Launceston CDT’s ‘Prout’s Corner’ project aims to create sustainable, affordable housing specifically for families on low income and core links to the town’s community. The project will build 28, eco, affordable dwellings within walking distance of Launceston Town Centre, along with an open community orchard for local community groups. Launceston CDT also runs ‘Active Launceston’, a community wide initiative hoping to increase the levels of activity in the community by utilising the many sporting outlets Launceston has to offer – and exploring what assets would be most useful on the way to achieving that. ‘Forest for Launceston’ is Launceston CDT’s third project and a partnership with Cornwall Council to turn some unused open space and woodland on the outskirts of the town centre into a community, biodiversity haven.

PURPOSE OF INVESTMENT: The initial investment helped begin the planning stages of the Prout’s Corner Project with putting together architect’s drawings to give the community a good idea of the proposed housing and community spaces. The second investment supported Launceston CDT’s Active Launceston project, allowing the group to extend their visioning and complete a land options appraisal of suitable sites nearby. This local initiative aims to result in the addition of new sporting facilities for their community.
