Karen Sorab OBE and the other investment committee members analyse and assess the robustness of the social enterprise deals put forward for investment.

Karen Sorab is a social entrepreneur with over 20 years senior leadership experience in the charity sector. She is the founder, former CEO and current Chair of BeyondAutism, a UK registered charity, providing education for people with autism and training for those who support them.

Growing the charity from scratch has allowed Karen to gain a wealth of experience in Education, Leadership and Governance, Corporate and Charity Law, Safeguarding, Health & Safety, GPDR, Marketing and Communications, Branding, Finance, Strategy, Risk Management, HR, and all aspects of Fundraising from corporate loans, to venture philanthropy, through to charitable giving from individuals and grant making trusts.

Today, BeyondAutism supports over 200 people with autism, per year, aged 2.5 to 25 years old. It employs over 250 staff and its projected turnover for the financial year 2021/2022 is £10m.

In addition, Karen is a Trustee of Disability Sports Coach, a Governor of Mayfield School and a member of the Learning Disability Strategy Action Group helping to improve employment and day opportunities for adults living in Wandsworth. She was awarded an OBE for her services to education in 2017.

Karen has both lived and professional experience of people with autism, learning difficulties and communication disorders. She has extensive knowledge and understanding of the education sector, especially in special educational needs and has first-hand knowledge of adult social care.
