Thomas is a tenant of Resonance’s Supported Homes Fund, living in one of eight self-contained apartments at The Old Eight Bells in Mansfield, and supported by the fund’s housing partner, United Response.  

We met Thomas not long after he’d moved into his new home. Having his own space has given him the independence to relax, feel comfortable and live life on his terms. But just as important is the sense of community around him.

He describes living at The Old Eight Bells as “like a big family” - a place where people look out for each other, friendships grow, and support is always there if needed.

Supported housing like The Old Eight Bells, delivered by United Response, makes this possible - combining independence with connection, safety and the right support.

Thomas’s flat is one of 8 homes that The Old Eight Bells is now providing for local people with learning disabilities and autistic people. The property also includes community spaces alongside a regional hub and office space for United Response, which will provide on-site support and activities for tenants.

The building had been empty since 2018, and was transformed thanks to £1.6m of funding from our Resonance Supported Homes Fund.

 

About the Resonance Supported Homes Fund

The Resonance Supported Homes Fund is a social impact investment property fund launched in July 2020 to provide much needed long-term homes for people with learning disabilities and autistic people.

The fund raised £15.2m in investment from four impact investors: Better Society Capital, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Barrow Cadbury Trust and Oxfordshire County Council.

The fund has 35 properties (a mix of single-occupant properties and shared supported housing) in its portfolio across England. 30 of these properties handed over to the fund’s two housing partners, United Response and Golden Lane Housing, and between them, they are now providing housing and 24-hour support to over 50 people with learning disabilities and autism.

The fund is due to handover all its intended properties in the next few months.
