Investment Manager (Funds)

Term: Permanent

Salary: £40,000 + (dependent on experience). Participation in Employee Benefit Trust after 12 months

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday – 9am to 5pm

Summary:

Resonance is recruiting for an Investment Manager based in its Launceston team to help run the Health & Wellbeing Challenge Fund, a pioneering social impact investment fund focused on Health & Wellbeing in the South West. Our mission is to connect capital with social enterprise, and we have 15 years track record in delivering that. This fund has been developed with existing partners and investors, and provides access to affordable investment for social enterprises in the South West needing investment of £150k or less, and with a focus on Health & Wellbeing outcomes. You will be taking responsibility for originating and executing investments from the fund, as well as further developing its strategy and building its profile across the region, alongside other team members. If you have experience in finance and a passion for using this to build up transformational social enterprises.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist with ongoing management of the fund generating deal flow within fund’s mandate to due diligence and present to investment committees and then to negotiate, execute, monitor/manage investments made
  • To lead on deal creation including the development of local partnerships, consortium, special purpose vehicles, social impact bonds that can be invested in by the Fund
  • To identify executive gaps in potential portfolio organisations and commission advisory / support work to accelerate deals
  • To report to the Investment Director and relevant stakeholders on performance of the Funds (both financial returns and social impact)
  • To undertake financial modelling to support the above activities
  • To assist with full legal compliance, in terms of structures and processes
  • To assist with reporting to Board, management and fund investment committee meetings on a periodic basis

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder management – participate in meetings, conferences and events led or attended by key stakeholders of potential partners in the sector
  • Support the business in articulating the learning from the Fund and help identify opportunities for scalable solutions.
  • To contribute to the overall growth and expansion of Resonance’s social investment activities

Person specification:

The Investment Manager will play a key role in the delivery of the Health & Wellbeing Challenge Fund, and to its growing prominence in the sector.  The ideal candidate will therefore have relevant experience to be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential experience and skills

  • Experience in investment including deal structuring, executing and ongoing management. Knowledge and understanding of the FCA, and the role of other financial service regulators
  • Fully subscribes to Resonance’s vision, mission and values (see below)
  • Experience in investment including deal structuring, executing and ongoing management
  • Ability to process and break down investment proposals, analyse risk and recommend decisions on investment suitability
  • Ability to understand, interpret and advise on business and financial strategy, ideally within the context of a values led enterprise
  • Commercial acumen and ability to creatively source investment opportunities suitable for Funds’ criteria
  • Strong financial modeling skills
  • Experience in the implementation of systems and performance measurement processes
  • Knowledge and understanding of the FCA, and the role of other financial service regulators
  • Ability to become an FCA CF30 Approved Person within a short period of commencing the role (if not already so authorized)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Exceptional influencing and interpersonal skills; able to adapt to different audiences (e.g. investors, investees) to build effective relationships
  • Able to prioritise work towards clear goals and performance targets
  • Able to work independently and demonstrate initiative and tenacity in seeing tasks or projects through to conclusion
  • Thorough and detailed approach to organising work and maintaining accurate records
  • Highly professional and ethical approach in representing the company and marketing its products
  • Willing to travel within the UK and work with colleagues in multiple locations using appropriate communications technology.
  • Able to travel extensively in the South West in order to meet potential and actual investee organisations.
  • Enthusiasm to work in an entrepreneurial and innovative environment
  • Desire to help address social issues through impact investment

Desirable

  • Experience in social investment and/or social enterprise
  • Educated to degree standard
  • Other relevant professional qualification
  • Existing FCA authorization as CF30 Approved Person
  • Knowledge of social enterprise sector in the South West region
  • Knowledge of the health and social care sector
  • Experience of loan funds
  • Knowledge of social impact measurement frameworks
